The video is nothing more than me TELLING everyone who views it that I want their help in making the video go viral. Now that you’ve viewed it, help me out by embedding the video in your blog, posting it on Twitter and Facebook, voting for it on Digg and Reddit, Stumbling it, and emailing it out to your friends and family.

Think if it as taking part in a 21st century social experiment. Look at you, you little groundbreaker!

Back to the moral of the story – the reason you tell as opposed to ask is simple – you can never assume that you have been clear enough with your potential customers. If you ask, you leave room for interpretation. If you tell, room for interpretation is gone.

Look at the following two examples:

• “Would you be interested in learning more about Blogging to the Bank 2010?”
• “Click the following link to learn more about and purchase Blogging to the Bank 2010.”

Of the two, which one do you think is more likely to get you a sale? The first one, where I’m asking if you’d like to learn more while not giving you clear direction on what to do next, or the one where I tell you exactly what to do and what’s going to happen after you do it?

Sure, the second one might come off as a little bit pushy, but since most buyers have to be coaxed and told what to do, you’re probably doing them (and your bank account) a favor by narrowing down their options.

I was pleasantly surprised the other day when I went to go log in to my Clickbank account.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t because I had a ton of new money waiting for me (on that note, my Clickbank sales have been awful lately, but that’s beside the point). Instead, the pleasant surprise was Clickbank’s new “Marketplace” layout.

In case you haven’t heard, Google has finally taken steps to ban advertisers who promote links to “scam sites.” These types of sites and offers include crazy get-rich-quick schemes, teeth whiteners and weight loss products.

Previously, Google would simply take down an advertisement if it pointed to a sketchy site or violated any terms and conditions, in essence banning the advertisement, not the advertiser.

Obviously, this is pretty huge news, as Google is critically important to any internet marketer, and is more than likely the marketer’s largest source of traffic.

Aside from being news worthy, Google’s actions illustrate an even larger point for those of us who are internet marketers: you have to focus on running a legitimate business.

Unfortunately, too many internet marketers have become modern day snake oil salesmen. They pitch products they know nothing about, or worse, that they know won’t live up to their outrageous claims, and try to scam as many people as possible in order to money.  Once one well runs dry, they simply pick up and move on to the next bogus product or niche.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to say affiliate marketing is wrong or immoral.  In fact, I do a fair amount of it myself, and I think I’m a pretty ethical person.

The difference between a legitimate affiliate marketer and your run of the mill scam artist is a legitimate marketer qualifies the products they promote, provides honest and unbiased reviews, and the money is secondary; a scam artist makes outrageous claims about products they’ve likely never touched or used simply to make a quick sale.

So, if you’re running an online business promoting your own or someone else’s products, make sure you’re doing it the right way, or you too may face a Google ban, or possibly something even worse.

Of all of the ways you can make money on your blog or site, one of the most profitable and popular ways is through affiliate marketing, which is essentially promoting other people’s products for a portion of the sale price.

While on the surface affiliate marketing seems like it should be pretty easy, it’s something that takes a very long time to learn and master.  In order to get it right you have to pick the right products, have a big enough audience, be able to write persuasive copy that gets people to buy… the list goes on and on.

That being said, becoming a successful affiliate marketer isn’t impossible to do either.  After all, there are thousands of people out there making a living simply promoting other people’s products.  If they can do it, you can do it!

In today’s post I’m going to focus on product selection, which might be the most important piece of affiliate marketing.  You can have all the traffic in the world and write incredible copy, but if you pick the wrong product you’re going to be dead in the water.

Here are some important questions to ask yourself when selecting which products  you want to promote.

Do you believe in this product?

I know it sounds cliche, but why in the world would you promote a product and tell people to buy it if it’s something you wouldn’t purchase yourself?

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I like making money more than I like breathing, but I’m not willing to ruin my reputation by promoting a terrible product just so I can make a buck.

Besides, if you wouldn’t buy the product, how are you expecting yourself to be able to sell other people on the idea of buying the product?  It just doesn’t make sense.

Will your audience be interested?

If you run an internet marketing and business site (something like this) are your readers really going to benefit from you writing a post promoting a weight loss informational product you found on Clickbank?  Okay, some of them may, but the vast majority won’t be interested and will simply tune you out.

The reason being is they (your readers) come to you to get information on things related to internet marketing and business, not the latest diet fad.  Now, if you were to promote some list building software, or some “learn Clickbank” product, that would probably be much more in line with your audience’s interests.

Long story short, don’t promote products that aren’t explicitly relevant to your target audience.

One time vs. recurring payment

Here’s one of my favorite topics – getting paid!

Now that you’ve picked a few relevant products that you’d feel good getting behind, it’s time to look at how maximize your profits.

Personally, if I had to choose between two similar products that I’m pretty sure I could sell, with one being a single sale item and the other being a recurring payment item, I would choose the recurring payment item every single time.

The way I figure, I’m going to have to work hard to make the sale regardless, so do I want to get paid one time, or would I rather get a recurring payment?  It’s kind of a no-brainer.

Unfortunately, when most affiliate marketers start out all they want to do is focus on the big ticket, one-time items.  While it’s nice to get a sale or two out of these, you’re going to make your living promoting lower priced items that bring in passive, residual income.

Hopefully this was a good and quick tutorial on what it takes to pick out the right product for you.  Obviously there are a lot more than three factors when it comes to determining a product to promote, but I feel that the three I just covered are the most important.

One of the most beautiful things about being an internet marketer is the fact there are so many different revenue streams.  Whether it’s contextual ads, affiliate marketing, advertising deals, you name it, there shouldn’t be any reason you can’t start to make a little bit of money from your websites.

So, how to most people do it?  The answer might surprise you a little bit.

Despite claims of its death and lack of “real” revenue generating power, Adsense is still the preferred way of making money for most website owners.

Here’s how nearly 100 people responded when asked: What is your primary source of online revenue?

• Adsense – 70%
• Affiliate Sales – 15%
• Private Ads – 9%
• Product/Service Sales 6%

The reasons Adsense is still incredibly popular are pretty clear: it’s easy to sign up for and integrate into your site, you don’t have to continuously promote it, and all it takes is a simple click to make money from it.

Affiliate marketing is also a great source of revenue for many website owners, and it certainly has the potential to be much more profitable than Adsense.  But with the added complexity of having to deal with people following through and purchasing the product you’re promoting (or, in the case of CPA, provide their information), you’re not “guaranteed” to make money.

That being said, the more involved with affiliate marketing I get the more I realize I will eventually shift most of my revenue generating focus from Adsense to affiliate marketing.

Private advertising deals are pretty nice because they’re sort of a set it and forget it system, especially if you can lock in to long-term deal, say six months to a year.  However, unless you have lots of targeted and unique traffic these deals are pretty hard to come by or simply aren’t very lucrative.

Don’t get me wrong, $10 a month is still more than what you had, but if you can make more focusing on other revenue streams, you’re better off doing so.

Finally, direct sales is the toughest revenue stream, mostly because you actually have to have a product or service you’re selling.  It also involves much more interaction with vendors and customers, so it’s a pretty time consuming process.  If you’re just starting out online, or are doing it simply to make supplemental income, direct sales probably isn’t the way to go.

The best way to monetize your online ventures is to simply combine as many of these revenue sources as possible.  For example, since adding affiliate marketing to my revenue streams, I’ve grown my monthly online income by roughly 65%, which makes me want to kick myself for waiting so long!

Clickbank Code Review

Now that I’ve gotten serious about really trying to make an effort to maximize all of my online income streams, I figured it was about time to venture into affiliate marketing, and more specifically, marketing products from Clickbank.

While I had known about Clickbank for some time, I was definitely intimidated by it because, to be quite honest, I didn’t even really know where to begin.  That’s why Clickbank Code is such a helpful product.

After doing some research, I decided to check out Clickbank Code, a new product from Michael Jones that shows in a step-by-step manner how to quickly get affiliate sites up and running and leverage Clickbank so that you can start making money in a matter of days.

If you haven’t heard of Michael Jones, you’d better get used to the name, as he was able to turn himself from a relative newbie into someone making nearly $50,000 per month using the steps he outlines in Clickbank Code.  Considering I’d be happy at just 10% of that success, I figured I’d give it a try!

In Clickbank Code, Michael Jones goes into detail about how to:

• find the hottest and best selling digital products on Clickbank
• leverage free search engine traffic to maximize your profits
• use social media to drive targeted BUYERS to your sites
• track your campaigns to maximize the most profitable ones and ditch the duds

Clickbank Code is different from another learn affiliate marketing program I recently reviewed, Affiliate Classroom 2.0, in the sense that it is more of a “paint by numbers” sort of program, meaning it gives you a step by step process.  In Affiliate Classroom 2.0 you’re given a whole bunch of lessons that allow you to sort of figure out affiliate marketing on your own.

For me personally, I do better with the step by step process because I just want to hit the ground running.  Don’t get me wrong, Affiliate Classroom 2.0 is a great system and I learned a lot from it, but in terms of learning how to quickly get cash coming in from affiliate marketing (specifically from Clickbank) I thought Clickbank Code was more along the lines of what I would need to succeed.

If you’re serious about making money from Clickbank, buying the Clickbank Code program (as well as many of the extras) will be an amazing investment for you.
